Description

  1. Litigate HIV-related civil rights cases involving housing discrimination and discrimination in the provision of services.
  2. Provide information via the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) information line and provide technical assistance to state and local governments, Federal agencies and other entities and individuals having rights and responsibilities under Titles II and III of the ADA.
  3. Develop and disseminate ADA questions and answers intended for persons who are HIV positive or living with AIDS to 5,000 HIV/AIDS service providers.

* Information only; complaint investigation and other enforcement activities are part of overall the operating budget. The President's 1997 budget requests a 3.9% increase for ADA enforcement.

Involvement

In addition to having access to the ADA information line, AIDS-related disability groups are sent the Justice Department's quarterly update on ADA enforcement activities and any relevant press releases on the Department's HIV-related anti-discrimination activities.
