Goal #2 To reduce the risk of employee infection and avoid possible worksite performance problems.
Objectives
  1. Educate Bureau of Prisons (BOP) staff, Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) employees, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) employees, Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) employees, and U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) regarding HIV/AIDS transmission and thereby reduce the risk of infection.
  2. Educate all Justice Department employees about HIV/AIDS in the workplace.
Action Steps
  1. For Bureau of Prison (BOP) staff provide: annual HIV information update and infectious disease training to all staff; produce inmate and staff HIV educational videos; and participate at least quarterly with HRSA in audio conferences on HIV issues.
  2. For DOJ employees in occupations that possess a heightened possibility for exposure to HIV or other bloodborne pathogens, including employees of the DEA, FBI, INS, and USMS provide: general training and field office training; annual bloodborne pathogen training to all personnel as mandated by OSHA (discussion of HIV/AIDS is included in this training); and an annual update on the bloodborne pathogens training as necessary to discuss new information or changes in the use of safety equipment, etc.
  3. For all Department employees, the Justice Management Division (JMD) provides: instructional materials to be used in a one time general training; and technical assistance to other DOJ components.
