Sarah Rosen Wartell

Sarah Rosen Wartell is the Senior Advisor for Financial and Regulatory Affairs at the National Economic Council (NEC) at the White House. She joined the Clinton Administration in 1993 as Special Assistant to the Assistant Secretary for Housing and the Federal Housing Commissioner, Nicolas P. Retsinas. In November of 1996, she was appointed Deputy Assistant Secretary for Operations for the Federal Housing Administration (FHA), and in August of 1997, she was appointed Associate General Deputy Assistant Secretary for Housing.

At the NEC, Ms. Wartell is responsible for coordinating Administration policies on such issues as consumer protection, legal reform, bankruptcy, pensions, financial markets and institutions, and international labor rights. Ms. Wartell also led the staff-level working group that developed the President’s New Markets initiative for the FY 2000 budget.

Before joining the Administration, Ms. Wartell practiced law with the firm of Arnold & Porter in Washington, DC. Ms. Wartell is a graduate of Yale Law School and received her undergraduate degree in Urban Affairs from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University.
