Comments for Speeches

"Before I conclude my remarks, please allow me to add a comment about a very important occasion all Americans should observe. Memorial Day is approaching, and I am concerned that we do not fully understand its relevance in today's world. It seems that many have a growing tendency to think that Memorial Day merely signals the opening for the neighborhood swimming pool or another day off from work. We have all enjoyed our freedom in this great nation, and it is critical that we all remember that freedom is not free. Just look at the news around the world and you will see that people still struggle to attain freedom. Ours has been won by the valiant efforts and sacrifices of many Americans over the years, and it is appropriate that we pay homage to those people who gave their lives for this freedom. The National Moment of Remembrance is established to do just that. So on Memorial Day, Monday, May 29th, please pause for one minute at 3:00 PM local time and consider the meaning of freedom. And remember the sacrifices of those who fought to protect it."
