Goal #1 To prevent transmission of HIV infection for Peace Corps Trainees and Volunteers
Objective

Provide all trainees with comprehensive HIV/AIDS training during the pre-service training period.

Develop training modules, train overseas medical staff, and educate trainees.

Objective #2 Provide continued HIV education and counseling for Peace Corps Volunteers and Medical Staff.
Action Steps
  1. Train Office of Medical Services (OMS) staff on communication and counseling skills.
  2. Continue to educate volunteers about HIV/AIDS during in-service trainings and conferences.
  3. Develop and distribute health newsletters.
  4. Provide one-on-one counseling for volunteers on an as needed basis.
  5. Disseminate videos, pamphlets, education material on HIV/AIDS prevention.
  6. Follow CDC guidelines on prevention of transmission in a medical setting.
Description
Follow-up HIV training for volunteers and medical staff. Make condoms available and easily accessible for all volunteers.

Goal #2 To enhance the understanding of HIV/AIDS and transfer skills for prevention to the communities and countries in which Peace Corps Volunteers serve.
Objective
  1. Provide quality programming and training on HIV/AIDS prevention as a primary project in six countries.
  2. Provide quality programming and training to ten percent of all Volunteers to work in HIV/AIDS as a secondary activity.
  3. Support on-going education and training of Associate Peace Corps Directors (APCD) in charge of programming at country level.
  4. Liaison with other organizations working in HIV/AIDS both internationally and domestically.
Action Steps
  1. Recruit 50 Volunteers to work in HIV/AIDS as their primary job.
  2. Train 50 new Volunteers and 45 second year Volunteers in HIV/AIDS, language and cross-cultural skills.
  3. Support 100 Volunteers to work in HIV/AIDS as their primary assignment.
  4. Support the development of projects and training curriculum.
  5. Support workshops for APCDs in three regions.
  6. Provide expert consultants for the development of projects and training.
  7. Support attendance at international and national conferences and workshops on HIV/AIDS and share information.
