About the Cover Photo

A microarray image of plant gene expression studies, courtesy of Dr. George Karlin-Neumann, Stanford University. Microarray experiments like this one allow a global analysis of gene expression in plants responding to different stimuli such as temperature, drought or pathogen attack. The information gained from this type of study will be essential for researchers to zero in on the groups of genes that work together to modulate particular plant responses. Many of these responses are of agricultural importance. Microarray analysis is thus going to be an important part of the design of tomorrow's crops.
