WASHINGTON -- The White House announced today that Rosina M. Bierbaum has been named the Acting Director for the Environment Program of the Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP).

Bierbaum joined OSTP in November 1993 as a Senior Policy Analyst and was named Assistant Director earlier this year. Her responsibilities include international environmental issues such as global change and biodiversity, as well as domestic natural resource issues. Since joining OSTP, she has worked extensively with the President's National Science and Technology Council to develop a coordinated Federal Environmental Research plan across all agencies. She works on issues related to the U.S. Global Change Program, the Clean Water Act, the Endangered Species Act, the White House Ecosystem Initiative, endocrine disruptors, ecological monitoring, the Climate Treaty, and energy.

From 1980-1993, Bierbaum worked on environmental issues for the Congressional Office of Technology Assessment (OTA), and is the primary author of the OTA reports Changing By Degrees: Steps to Reduce Greenhouse Gases and Preparing for an Uncertain Climate. Bierbaum was a 1980 Congressional Fellow.

Bierbaum holds a B.S. in Biology and a B.A. in English from Boston College and a Ph.D. in Ecology and Evolution from the State University of New York at Stony Brook.
