U.S. Population Breakdown
|
Our diversity is one of the most valued attributes of our nation. The
success
of this country is built upon the unique contributions of every racial
and
ethnic group. Throughout history people came to America from different
parts
of the world, and have played vital roles in our growth and strength.
Today, the Face of America is 72.7 percent White, 11 percent Hispanic,
12.1
percent Black, 3.6 percent Asian/Pacific Islander, and 0.7 percent
American
Indian.*
Statistics indicate that in the 21st century, America's racial landscape
will
continue to shift.
In 2050, the population in the United States will be approximately 53
percent
White, 25 percent Hispanic, 14 percent Black, 8 percent Asian/Pacific
Islander,
and 1 percent American Indian.
As the Face of America continues to change, the goal of the President's
Initiative on Race is to strengthen our foundation as Americans, while
celebrating our differences, so that we live in an atmosphere of trust
and
mutual respect. All Americans have reason to invest in creating One
America so
that we, as a nation, can effectively move forward together to fulfill
the
promise of the American dream in the 21st century.
*This number also includes Eskimo and Aleut.
